Please post any questions regarding the MBA admissions process here. You can check out the old post with many questions that I have answered here - Ask Me A Question (old).

These questions can be about profile evaluations, general MBA experience, pretty much anything and everything regarding an MBA in the US.

people have wealth of various types cows, elephants, horses (baji means horse) or precious stones. However when one gets the wealth of satisfaction, all the other wealth is like dust.

Hi Anshul,
Thanks for the super informative blog. I would like your advise on the below.

I am an IT professional having 6 yrs of work-ex in the Finance domain as a direct employee with top global banks.
ACADS: very good
Exra curricular: take part in CSR activities and part of social service groups.
GMAT: yet to write. Aiming for a 700 atleast.
Plan: I am planning to join an MBA in 2012, which would mean I would have 8 yrs of work-ex by then.
IELTS: 8
Post-MBA industry: IT/consulting (with McKinsey, Bain , BCG, etc)

I have shortlisted 5 universities in the UK for this. Warwick, Cranfield, Lancaster, strathclyde and City (Cass).

Looking at the opportunities post-Mba in UK, I have also decided to apply for the US, just to have a wider choice. Finance is a problem for me. So, when it comes to that, I would have to start moving down the rankings.

Please could you let me know what are the schools that you would suggest in and around SFO/Austin (as per your posts), that would suit my needs of getting back into the IT field or moving into consulting.

Migration: I also read your posts about settling in the US. My long term goal is migration and looks like it isn't a possibility now. Please could you also suggest some of the schools in Canada that would suit my goals.

Thanks you very much.

@Rajiv,

I wouldn't say settling in the US is *impossible* but it is a very lengthy process.

Assuming you score 700, and with 8 years of work ex... You can apply at all the top schools. Focus on schools where the average age is closer to your age. Austin has only one good school - UT Austin.

You can focus on CA as a whole. Pick top names there - Stanford, UCB, USC, UCLA. Also choose a few safe schools.... Please give me more clarification on what exactly you want after your MBA and we can make a list of schools.

Also consider Boston. Good area to be for tech as well.
