USA vs Canada vs UK vs Australia vs Others for MBA

Today Indians have many options when it comes to MBA abroad. Choosing which country to go and study can be very very confusing. Here is my take on the main ones:

1. USA: US is still the most popular destinations for Indian MBAs. Even after all the crisis, US has a LOT of opportunities. There are many schools to choose from and the top schools of the world are in the US. However, immigration issues are scaring away many international students. So here is the deal, if you want to go back home right after the MBA, US is still a very good choice for your MBA. If you are thinking of working for a couple of years after your graduation, I would still suggest looking at other countries before finalizing US.

2. Canada - I think Canada is a great option for people looking to settle outside India. If you can get into the top schools, the education will pretty much be as good as the US counterpart schools plus you have a better chance of getting permanent residence in Canada. If you have entrepreneurial plans, Canada might not be the best place as there aren't as many opportunities as in other countries.

Others to follow soon....

you mentioned that you are looking at canada for job opps. Can you shed some more light as to how a US MBA is perceived there? And what about Visa issues ?

A US MBA is well respected here. However, an MBA from a Canadian school would be better cuz of the alumni connections. There are no visa issues here, you dont need sponsorship. The companies will give you an offer, you take the offer letter and apply for a work permit. No H1-b type messy stuff.

hope this helps.

Anshul,

can share your experiences in Canada. Also, do all the top 20 US school have a good reputation in Canada? A dedicated post on this will be very helpful.

I will write a post about it in a couple of weeks.

Don't waste time. Canadian MBA is useless.

Why do you think so? Please share your experiences it will be helpful to others to see your perspective.

I am Planing to do MBA next year. I am PR holder in Canada.

I am software professional from last 6 years.

Is US better for me or Canada.?

Anshul said...

If you are have a PR from Canada, you should definitely be in Canada. You'd be better off in Canada with a PR, than being in the US on a visa.

which is better. MBA from US school which ranks between 20 and 30 , in a city which has plethora of jobs and the school enjoys plethora of jobs. Or MBA from Rotman, canada. No 1 canada. good brand name and no hassles in getting work permit.

Anshul said...

@SauravD I would go to Rotman. I live in Toronto these days and I can tell from experience it is a great place to be. It has a LOT of opportunities especially in finance and IT. However, I need to know more about your long term goals in order to advise you. Which US school are you talking about?

Hi Anshul,

Great post! I've been thinking about doing an MBA from Canada myself primarily because of US visa issues.

Since you said you live in Toronto and know the job scenario, could you tell me how the job scenario is for Finance MBAs? I've passed CFA L2 and am hoping to go to Ivey. Planning to apply soon.

Thanks in advance!
